Moist bread pudding combines softened stale bread with sweet vanilla and cinnamon flavors, creating a comforting, nourishing dessert suitable for family gatherings or casual desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 3 Tbsp margarine
  • 3 c boiling water
  • 3 c diced or broken bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • cinnamon to taste or 1 tsp cinnamon
  • raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine condensed milk and boiling water in a bowl.
  2. Add margarine and let it melt.
  3. Pour the milk mixture over the bread to soften it.
  4. Stir in the eggs, salt, vanilla, cinnamon, and raisins if using.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  6. Set the dish in a shallow pan of hot water for baking.
  7. Bake at 325°F for about 1 hour, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
