Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 lb. butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 pt. sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 10 oz. ground nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/2 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add shortening and mix until crumbly.
  3. Add egg yolks, sour cream, and vanilla; blend until dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into three portions.
  5. Roll each portion between waxed paper as for a jelly roll.
  6. Remove the waxed paper and proceed with baking or further assembly as desired.
