Ingredients

  • 2 lb. round steak
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • pepper
  • 1/2 cup Puritan oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 can mushroom soup

Instructions

  1. Pound the steak with a tenderizer or fork to tenderize.
  2. Pour flour into a shallow pan.
  3. Add salt and pepper to the flour.
  4. Press the steak into the flour mixture, turning several times to coat evenly.
  5. Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
  6. Brown the steak on both sides in the hot oil.
  7. Add the chopped onion to the Dutch oven and cook until softened.
  8. Mix the mushroom soup with equal parts water and stir well.
  9. Pour the mushroom mixture over the steak and onions in the Dutch oven.
  10. Lower the temperature and let it simmer for 2 hours.
  11. Add more water if necessary during simmering.
  12. Stir from the bottom occasionally to prevent sticking.
  13. The dish makes its own gravy and is ready to serve.
