Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread, crusts removed and cubed
  • 2 cups grated cheese (sharp, American or Velveeta)
  • 1 pound sausage, cooked
  • 1 cup cooked sliced mushrooms
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

Instructions

  1. Place cubed bread in the bottom of a well-greased baking dish (8 x 12-inch or 9 x 13-inch).
  2. Top with grated cheese, cooked sausage, and sliced mushrooms.
  3. Beat eggs with 2 1/2 cups milk and dry mustard.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, sausage, cheese, and mushrooms.
  5. Refrigerate overnight or up to 2 days.
  6. Dilute the cream of mushroom soup with 1/2 cup milk and pour over the casserole before baking.
  7. Bake at 325°F for 60 to 75 minutes, until set.
