Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, blend together sugar, milk, egg, and melted shortening.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the liquid mixture and stir lightly; mix in raisins.
  4. Drop heaping teaspoonfuls of batter into heated shortening at 365°F.
  5. Fry until golden brown.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a paper bag.
  8. Shake warm donuts in the bag until coated.
