Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 (32 oz) jar thick spaghetti sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese or small curd cottage cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a 3-quart saucepan; drain excess fat.
  2. Add the spaghetti sauce and water to the beef, then simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Combine ricotta or cottage cheese, shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper to make the cheese filling.
  4. Pour about 1 cup of the sauce into the bottom of a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking dish.
  5. Lay 3 uncooked lasagne noodles over the sauce, followed by about 1 1/2 cups of sauce.
  6. Spread half of the cheese filling over the sauce layer.
  7. Repeat the layers of lasagne, sauce, and cheese filling.
  8. Top with a final layer of lasagne noodles and the remaining sauce.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350°F for 55 to 60 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  11. Allow the lasagne to stand for about 10 minutes before cutting to facilitate serving.
