Easy Time Squares

Sweet, fruity, and buttery, these easy Time Squares combine a tender cake base with fruit filling and a dusting of confectioners sugar, perfect for dessert or teatime treats.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or extract
  • 1 can fruit pie filling of your choice
  • confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Gradually add sugar to margarine in a large mixer bowl, creaming at medium speed until light and fluffy.
  3. At medium speed, add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. At low speed, add sifted flour and lemon juice or extract.
  5. Pour batter into a well-greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
  6. Mark off into 24 squares.
  7. Place one heaping tablespoonful of fruit pie filling in the center of each square.
  8. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
  9. While warm, sift confectioners sugar over the top.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
