Ingredients

  • 9 eggs
  • 1 lb bacon
  • 2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1/8 teaspoon basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon marjoram
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Hard-cook eggs; peel, slice and set aside.
  2. Fry bacon until crisp.
  3. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  4. Melt margarine in a saucepan; add flour, milk, and half and half to make a cream sauce.
  5. Add basil, thyme, marjoram, and shredded cheese to the sauce.
  6. Cook until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Grease a 9 x 6-inch baking dish.
  8. Layer half the sliced eggs, half the bacon, and half the cheese mixture in the dish.
  9. Repeat with the remaining eggs, bacon, and cheese.
  10. Melt remaining margarine and add bread crumbs.
  11. Sprinkle bread crumbs over the top of the casserole.
  12. Let set for 8 hours or overnight.
  13. Bake in a 350°F oven until browned on top, about 30 minutes.
