Ingredients

  • 16 saltines, crushed
  • 1 quart shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Place 1/2 of the crushed saltines in a buttered casserole; cover with shredded cabbage.
  2. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and celery seed.
  3. Scald the milk.
  4. Add 4 tablespoons of butter to the milk and let it melt.
  5. Pour the hot milk and melted butter over the cabbage and crackers.
  6. Top with the remaining crushed saltines.
  7. Dot with the remaining butter.
  8. Cover and bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
  9. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
