Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 cup nuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 tablespoons cocoa.
  3. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to the creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in vanilla and nuts.
  5. Spread batter in an ungreased 9x9-inch pan.
  6. Mix brown sugar, 4 tablespoons cocoa, and hot water to make a sauce.
  7. Pour the sauce over the batter.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes.
