Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Instructions

  1. Cream together the sugar, molasses, shortening, eggs, and vanilla until well blended.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, and ginger.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  4. Roll the dough into balls and then roll each ball in regular sugar.
  5. Place the coated dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake at 345°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are set.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
