Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 pint fig preserves
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour

Instructions

  1. Mix together brown sugar, fig preserves, and water.
  2. Pour the mixture into a 9 x 9-inch pan and spread evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add sugar, margarine, milk, and vanilla, mixing well.
  4. Gradually add self-rising flour to the wet ingredients and stir until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter over the fig mixture in the pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the top is golden brown, about 35 minutes.
  7. Allow the cake to cool slightly, then turn it over onto a cake plate to serve.
