A playful take on tuna salad served in buttery French rolls, melted cheese sails, and a touch of olives—ideal for a light lunch or a fun family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz. can tuna, drained
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish, drained
  • 2 large French rolls (about 6 inches long)
  • 1/2 cup shredded American cheese
  • 1 slice American cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine tuna, mayonnaise, celery, and pickle relish in a mixing bowl.
  2. Stir well with a fork; set aside.
  3. Place French rolls on a cutting board.
  4. Carefully cut a thin slice lengthwise off the top of each roll.
  5. With your fingers, hollow out the rolls by removing some of the soft bread.
  6. Leave about a 1/2-inch shell.
  7. Place the boats on a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet.
  8. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons shredded cheese into each boat.
  9. Fill the boats with the tuna mixture.
  10. Sprinkle with remaining shredded cheese.
  11. Place the baking sheet in the oven under the hot broiler for 1 to 2 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  12. Carefully remove from the oven.
  13. Cut a slice of cheese diagonally.
  14. Thread a wooden skewer through the cheese to make a sail.
  15. Place a sail in each boat.
  16. Top with sliced olives.
