Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine shortening, 1/2 cup sugar, and egg in a bowl, mixing well.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
  4. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  6. Dip immediately in melted butter, then in a mixture of 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.
