Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 onions
  • 2 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
  • 8 medium tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried leaf basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a skillet and add sliced onions; cook until browned. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter and lightly brown the bread crumbs; set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine peeled and quartered tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and dried basil.
  5. Layer the cooked onions and bread crumbs in a baking dish, alternating with the tomato mixture.
  6. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
