Crispy, tender fried clams with a seasoned cracker meal coating, perfect as an appetizer or seafood entrée for those who enjoy classic American flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. cracker meal
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. paprika
  • 2 c. soft shell clams, shucked
  • Crisco shortening or oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Beat the egg in a small bowl and add milk.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Put the shucked soft shell clams into the cracker meal for coating.
  4. Dip the clams into the egg mixture, then dredge in the cracker meal mixture.
  5. Heat Crisco shortening or oil in a deep fryer or large skillet until hot.
  6. Deep fry the coated clams until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
