Ingredients

  • 2 large cabbage heads
  • 4 onions
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 6 sweet peppers
  • 4 carrots
  • 3 cups vinegar
  • 1/2 pound margarine
  • 2 lemons
  • 1/2 pint vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons salt

Instructions

  1. Chop the cabbage, onions, sweet peppers, and carrots into desired sizes.
  2. Combine sugar, salt, and vinegar in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the chopped vegetables to the vinegar mixture and stir well.
  4. Melt the margarine and add it to the mixture, stirring to incorporate.
  5. Juice the lemons and add the juice to the mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into containers and freeze.
  7. Optionally, substitute about one-third of the red pepper with Texas Pete for added spice.
