Sweet and nutty fruit and oat bars combine wholesome oats, tasty fruit preserves, and crunchy nuts for a delightful snack suitable for all ages and occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Quaker oats, uncooked
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 3/4 cup margarine or butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 1 (10 to 12 oz.) jar fruit preserves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease an 11 x 7-inch glass baking dish.
  3. Combine all ingredients except preserves in a mixing bowl and mix well.
  4. Reserve 3/4 cup of the oats mixture.
  5. Press the remaining mixture into the bottom of the prepared dish.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Spread the fruit preserves evenly over the partially baked base, leaving a 1/2-inch edge.
  8. Sprinkle the reserved oats mixture over the preserves.
  9. Bake for an additional 20 to 22 minutes or until golden brown.
