Ingredients

  • 1 medium pear
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 2 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c flour for rolling
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel the pear, cut in half, remove the core, and dice.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan until half melted.
  4. In a bowl, mix 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until completely mixed.
  6. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup flour on a clean kitchen surface.
  7. Place dough on the floured surface and knead about 5 times.
  8. Gently flatten the dough with your hands and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  9. Use a cookie cutter to cut out circles from the dough.
  10. Cut as many circles as possible.
  11. Arrange the circles on a cookie sheet.
  12. In a small bowl, beat the egg and water with a fork until blended.
  13. Dip your finger into the egg wash and dab it around the edge of each dough circle.
  14. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of marmalade or jam in the center of each circle.
  15. Add 2 to 3 pieces of pear chunks on top of the jam.
  16. Fold each circle in half, pressing the edges together with a fork to seal.
  17. Bake in the oven until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
  18. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
