Ingredients

  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins or dates
  • 1/2 c. fat (bacon drippings, etc.)
  • 1 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. nuts
  • 3 c. or a little more flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. soda

Instructions

  1. Simmer raisins in water for 10 minutes.
  2. Cool and drain.
  3. Use water from raisins; bring to boil.
  4. Cream fat and sugar.
  5. Add eggs; beat well.
  6. Add the rest of the ingredients.
  7. Drop by spoonful and bake for 10 minutes at 410°.
