Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat bread flour
  • 1 cup unbleached white flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons sweet butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl.
  2. Add minced garlic and grated Cheddar cheese to the flour mixture and combine well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, beaten egg, and buttermilk.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
