Ingredients

  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. margarine or butter
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream the brown sugar, flour, and butter until crumbly; set aside 1 cup of the mixture.
  2. Mix the baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the remaining mixture.
  3. Add the eggs and buttermilk to the mixture and blend well.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  5. Sprinkle the reserved 1 cup of the mixture on top of the batter.
  6. Bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 30 minutes.
  7. Serve with Lemon Sauce.
