Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2-3 ounces citron
  • 2-3 ounces chopped almonds
  • 2-3 ounces other nutmeats

Instructions

  1. Make a liquid from 1/2 cup coffee and 1 cup water and strain it.
  2. Cream the margarine and add sugar, the whole egg, and nutmeats.
  3. Put spices into the flour.
  4. Mix the coffee with enough flour to make a liquid paste.
  5. Put baking powder in the remaining flour mixture.
  6. Alternately add the flour mixture and coffee to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  7. Pour into a well-greased pan (round, square, or tube style).
  8. Place the pan in an unlighted oven.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
  10. Cover with chocolate frosting before serving.
