Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. dates, chopped
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter or stick oleo
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 pkg. chocolate chips (for sprinkling before putting in oven)
  • 1 pkg. pecans (to mix with chocolate chips)

Instructions

  1. Mix dates, boiling water and soda.
  2. Cream sugar and butter; add eggs.
  3. Sift together flour, cocoa and salt.
  4. Add to creamed mixture.
  5. Add date mixture and vanilla.
  6. Mix well and pour into 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over batter before baking.
  8. Bake at 325° for 30 to 35 minutes.
