Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 3/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. shortening

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Cream sugar and shortening together in a separate bowl.
  3. Add molasses to the creamed mixture and blend well.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until the center springs back.
  7. Cool in the pan, then cut into squares.
