Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 3/4 cup dark molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons ginger

Instructions

  1. Mix the soft butter, dark molasses, egg, sugar, and buttermilk together until well combined.
  2. Sift together the flour, salt, soda, and ginger in a separate bowl.
  3. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 325°F for approximately 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Serve hot with applesauce, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.
