Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted shortening or oil
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix hot water and molasses in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda, baking powder, ginger, and salt.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the water and molasses mixture, stirring well.
  5. Stir in melted shortening or oil and raisins until evenly mixed.
  6. Drop teaspoon-sized portions onto a greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
