Gouda Strata
A cheesy, savory strata with Gouda and Monterey Jack that makes a hearty breakfast or brunch dish, perfect for cheese lovers and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. reduced-calorie margarine ⓘ
- 6 slices thin-sliced whole wheat bread ⓘ
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (2 oz.) ⓘ
- 1 cup shredded Gouda cheese (4 oz.) ⓘ
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion ⓘ
- 1 large clove garlic, finely chopped ⓘ
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1 1/2 cups skim milk ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. red pepper sauce
- 3 eggs ⓘ
- 1 egg white
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- Spread margarine on one side of each bread slice.
- Cut each slice diagonally into four triangles.
- Arrange 16 bread triangles with margarine sides against sides and bottom of an ungreased 8x8-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine shredded Monterey Jack cheese, shredded Gouda cheese, chopped onion, chopped garlic, and dry mustard.
- In another bowl, whisk together skim milk, red pepper sauce, eggs, and egg white.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the dish, ensuring the bread is soaked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes or until set and golden.
