  • 1 good ham bone with leftover ham
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 cup rice
  • black pepper
  • 6 cups water

Instructions

  1. Boil the ham bone in water until the broth tastes 'hammy', about 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Add the head of cabbage, quartered, to the broth and cook until tender.
  3. Remove the cabbage and keep warm in another pot.
  4. Add rice to the broth (about 2 1/2 cups) and cook until done.
