Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
  • 2 1/2 cups tomatoes
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup cubed potatoes
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 1/2 quarts water
  • 1/4 cup rice

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet and drain excess fat.
  2. Bring the vegetables, water, and seasonings to a boil in a large pot.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage to the boiling mixture.
  4. Return to a boil, then add the rice.
  5. Cover and simmer for 1 hour until vegetables and rice are tender.
