Ingredients

  • 1 lb. bulk pork sausage
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 c. water
  • 10 3/4 oz. chicken broth
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 12 oz. can corn
  • 2 c. water

Instructions

  1. Shape the pork sausage into small meatballs.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the meatballs in oil, turning carefully to brown evenly.
  3. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Reserve 2 tablespoons of meat drippings in the skillet, then stir in flour and pepper.
  5. Gradually add 1 cup of water and chicken broth, cooking until the mixture boils and thickens, stirring constantly.
  6. Add sliced carrots, celery, onion, and the browned meatballs to the skillet.
  7. Simmer uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  8. Add the can of corn and heat thoroughly.
  9. In a large saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add cabbage.
  10. Cover and cook for 8 minutes or until crisp-tender, then drain.
  11. Arrange the cooked cabbage on a serving platter surrounding the stew.
