Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, margarine, Crisco, and egg yolks until yellow and well combined.
  2. Add remaining ingredients to the mixture, alternating the buttermilk and flour, and mix until smooth.
  3. Beat 3 egg whites until foamy and gently fold into the batter.
  4. Pour the batter into a prepared cake pan and bake at 350°F for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow the cake to cool completely before topping with Heavenly Icing.
