Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup cocoa

Instructions

  1. Melt butter and cocoa on low heat until smooth and thickened.
  2. Pour into a small bowl and cool.
  3. Add vanilla extract to the cooled mixture.
  4. Add sugar and buttermilk alternately to the mixture until desired consistency.
