- Mix the Herman starter, 1 cup of flour, 1/4 teaspoon of soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/4 cup of oil, and 3/4 cup of oil or applesauce in a bowl.
- Add the remaining 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of soda, and 1 1/3 teaspoons of baking powder to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the batter into 2 greased loaf pans.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 50 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
