Ingredients

  • 1 cup Herman starter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3/4 cup oil or applesauce
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/3 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Mix the Herman starter, 1 cup of flour, 1/4 teaspoon of soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/4 cup of oil, and 3/4 cup of oil or applesauce in a bowl.
  2. Add the remaining 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of soda, and 1 1/3 teaspoons of baking powder to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into 2 greased loaf pans.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 50 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
