Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 4 1/4 c. flour
  • 4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs and molasses, mixing well.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, ground cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until combined.
  5. Stir in raisins and chopped walnuts.
  6. Divide the dough into 6 strips and place on cookie sheets (2 strips per sheet).
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 9 minutes or until golden brown.
