Ingredients

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons soda
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk scalded
  • 1/2 cup shortening

Instructions

  1. Add 1 cake yeast and 1 unbeaten egg to the mixture.
  2. Gradually add 2 cups of flour and mix well.
  3. Beat on speed #3 for 2 minutes.
  4. Remove from the mixer and stir in 1 cup of flour.
  5. Turn out onto a floured board and knead until smooth.
  6. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  7. Cut the dough into rolls and butter each roll.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased pan.
  9. Let the rolls rise again until doubled.
  10. Bake in a 425°F oven for 20 minutes until golden brown.
