Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 head cabbage (about 3 lb)
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 1 (No. 2 1/2) can sauerkraut
  • 1 small can kraut juice

Instructions

  1. Scald cabbage leaves and set aside to cool.
  2. Combine ground beef, rice, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and milk; mix well.
  3. Place a tablespoon of meat mixture on each cabbage leaf and roll up.
  4. Arrange the cabbage rolls in a large kettle, then cover with extra cabbage, sauerkraut, and kraut juice.
  5. If desired, add extra can of kraut juice, tomatoes, and onion for more flavor.
  6. Cover and cook over low heat for about 2.5 hours.
