Homemade granola bars bursting with oats, coconut, nuts, and honey, perfect for a nutritious snack or breakfast on the go, suited for health-conscious and busy individuals.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Spread oats, shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, wheat germ, and slivered almonds on a 9 x 12-inch baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even toasting.
  4. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine with dark brown sugar and honey over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  6. Stir vanilla extract into the honey mixture.
  7. Combine the toasted dry ingredients with the honey mixture in a large bowl.
  8. Add raisins and mix thoroughly.
  9. Press the mixture firmly into a greased or parchment-lined baking pan.
  10. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
