- Cream sugar and butter together.
- Add eggs, egg yolks, molasses, white corn syrup, and lemon juice to the mixture.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture by hand using a spoon.
- Add flour and walnuts by hand to form the dough.
- Cover the dough with aluminum foil and grease a jellyroll pan and a regular cookie sheet.
- Dump the dough onto the prepared sheet and use floured hands to pat it out to 1/2-inch thickness.
- Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Perform a toothpick test to ensure doneness.
- Allow the baked sheet to cool for 3 to 4 minutes, then turn the dough out onto wax paper and cool for 5 to 6 minutes, then peel off the foil.
- Cut the cooled dough into 1 1/2 to 2-inch square bars.
