Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups honey
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening and honey together until well combined.
  2. Add two well-beaten eggs to the mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. Sift the flour twice; add the soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the flour and mix.
  4. Gradually add the sour milk and dry ingredients alternately into the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Pour the batter into a large loaf pan and bake at 350°F for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
