A spicy, tangy hot chile sauce featuring tomatoes, onions, green and hot peppers, perfect for adding heat and flavor to various dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 bushel tomatoes
  • 3 lb. onions, ground
  • 12 sweet green peppers
  • 3 or 4 hot peppers
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp. cloves
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Scald and peel tomatoes, then cut them into pieces.
  2. Boil the tomatoes for 2 hours.
  3. Add ground onions and chopped green and hot peppers to the boiling tomatoes.
  4. Mix in cinnamon, ginger, cloves, dry mustard, and sugar.
  5. Boil the mixture for 30 minutes.
  6. Add half a pint of vinegar to the mixture.
  7. Boil for an additional 30 minutes.
  8. Pour the hot sauce into sterilized canning jars and seal.
