Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 2 tablespoons grated Romano cheese
  • 2/3 cup nonfat buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, ground red pepper, and grated Romano cheese in a large bowl; make a well in the center of the mixture.
  2. Combine the nonfat buttermilk and canola oil; add to the flour mixture, stirring just until ingredients are moistened.
  3. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour over a work surface.
  4. Turn the dough onto the floured surface.
  5. Knead the dough 3 or 4 times.
  6. Roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 1 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place the rounds on an ungreased baking sheet and lightly coat the tops with Mazola spray.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes, until golden brown.
