Ingredients

  • 1 lb. American or medium strong Cheddar cheese
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 or 4 slices bacon
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • mayonnaise
  • buffet rye or thin sliced firm bread

Instructions

  1. Put cheese, green pepper, onion, and bacon through a food chopper.
  2. Add Worcestershire sauce and enough mayonnaise to bring the mixture to spreading consistency, mixing well.
  3. Lay slices of bread close together on a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet and spread with the cheese mixture.
  4. Place the pan in the broiler (about 3 inches from heat) until the topping is bubbling and golden brown.
  5. Serve immediately and be prepared to keep serving.
  6. Pickles, any type, are a good accompaniment.
