Tips & Substitutions

For best results, brown the beef chuck well to enhance flavor before simmering. If you prefer a thicker stew, you can mix a tablespoon of flour with water and add it during the last 10 minutes of cooking. If you’re out of paprika, consider using a mix of smoked paprika and chili powder for a different flavor profile. This dish can also be enhanced with some diced bell peppers.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Hungarian Gulya's with a slice of crusty bread or over egg noodles for a hearty meal. A simple side salad, like Asian Slaw, can provide a refreshing contrast. This stew is also delicious served with pickles or a dollop of sour cream for added flavor. Pairing with a robust red wine can elevate the dining experience.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm on the stove over low heat, adding a splash of water if needed to maintain moisture. You can also microwave it in a covered dish, stirring occasionally until heated through.

Can I use a different type of meat for this recipe?
