Ingredients

  • 1 round steak
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 4 or 5 slices bacon
  • 1 onion
  • 3 or 4 carrots
  • 1 cup tomatoes
  • 1 package frozen limas
  • 3/4 cup water
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Place the strips of uncooked bacon in the bottom of a large skillet.
  2. Cut the round steak into finger-length pieces and arrange over the bacon.
  3. Top the steak with thinly sliced onion.
  4. Peel the potatoes and cut into 1/2-inch slices.
  5. Arrange the potato slices over the onion.
  6. Place carrot pieces over the potatoes and top with the frozen limas.
  7. Sprinkle each layer with salt and pepper.
  8. Add the tomatoes and water.
  9. Cover and cook over medium heat for 1 hour.
  10. If family is late for dinner, add a little more water, reduce the heat, and continue cooking.
  11. Let the dinner 'wait' until ready to serve.
