Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 c. corn meal
  • 1/2 c. wheat flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. yeast

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in water.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and cornmeal together.
  3. Add yeast and enough water to make a sticky dough.
  4. Drop by teaspoons into hot lard (deep fat fry).
  5. Fry until crispy brown on both sides.
  6. Remove to a paper towel covered pan.
  7. Serve with butter and maple syrup or peanut butter or jelly.
  8. Also good with ham and eggs or tomato gravy.
