Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seed
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/2 cup currants
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Combine margarine, egg, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Mix well with a spoon and add orange juice.
  3. Add caraway seed, seedless raisins, currants, maraschino cherries, all-purpose flour, and baking powder.
  4. Add buttermilk and stir well.
  5. The mixture will be fairly thick.
  6. Spread the batter in a square baking dish.
  7. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 hour.
