Tips & Substitutions

For best results, choose a well-marbled beef round steak for tenderness. You can substitute the mushrooms with zucchini or bell peppers for a different flavor. If you're short on time, consider using pre-sliced vegetables. To add depth, try incorporating a splash of red wine while simmering. This dish can also be made in a slow cooker for added convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of beef for this recipe?

Yes, you can use cuts like chuck roast or sirloin for a different texture and flavor. Just adjust cooking times as necessary, as some cuts may require longer or shorter cooking times to become tender.

What can I substitute for fresh vegetables?

If you don’t have fresh vegetables on hand, frozen vegetables can be a convenient substitute. Just ensure they're thawed and drained before adding to the skillet. Canned vegetables can also work, but be mindful of the cooking time to avoid mushiness.

Is it possible to make this dish ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the entire dish a day in advance and allow the flavors to meld. Just reheat gently before serving. It's a great meal prep option, and the leftovers taste even better the next day.
