A hearty Italian baked pasta dish featuring shells filled with ricotta and layered with meat sauce and melted mozzarella, perfect for family dinners and comfort food lovers.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups medium shells (uncooked)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a large skillet.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until tender.
  3. Pour off excess fat from the skillet.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, garlic salt, oregano, and pepper; simmer.
  5. While the sauce simmers, cook medium shells according to package instructions; drain well.
  6. Combine ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella, and chopped parsley; mix well.
  7. Combine cooked shells with meat sauce.
  8. Place half of the shell and meat mixture into a buttered baking pan.
  9. Spread cheese filling evenly over the shells.
  10. Repeat with remaining shells and meat mixture; spread cheese mixture on top.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella over the top.
  12. Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
  13. Remove cover and bake an additional 5 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
