Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and allspice in a medium bowl.
  2. Beat butter and dark brown sugar in a mixer bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Gradually beat in the flour mixture until blended.
  5. Stir in sliced almonds.
  6. Shape the dough into an 8 x 2 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch brick.
  7. Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  8. Cut the brick into 1/8-inch slices.
  9. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
